It's just gone 8 in the morning and the temperature outside has hit 80f and is rising fast, by 2pm it's set to be 97f, with 78% humidity factor and the heat index (that's supposed to be the way it's supposed to feel) at 107F Now, that is pretty darn warm if you ask me, I checked the weather back home where it's 2 in the after noon and the sky is clear and a breezy 63f, missing the weather back home, I can't say I am, not really. But, I'm then again, I'm not here in the winter, during an ice storm where everything freezes and temperatures plummet to lows that I haven't felt since a winter in northern Alberta, Canada, many moons ago!
I'm up early this morning yes, but don't think I've just woken, oh no, I've been up a long long time! Last night as it was so warm we had the ac on full blast, however at 5.45am Matt woke me up to tell me it was cold, or rather her was cold! He told me to go and turn the ac off, so I stumbled and slipped all the way to the lounge, turned on the mechanical air chilling device and returned to the bedroom, where Matt had taken up residence in the Middle of the bed and was sound asleep. No matter how hard I tried, sleep was not going to return to my body, so up I have got and coffee I have made.
I''ve been out on the balcony for a little while, the heat is already evident a
s is the humidity, I've refilled the squirrel feeder to ensure they've got nourishment, maybe I should give them some water as well? I've flicked thru the major breakfast TV shows, which has been amusing, the breakfast shows are all a live and have live acts, NBC's Today show coming from Rockafella Plaza, where The Jonas Brothers are the fellas rockin the plaza! Over on ABCs Good Morning America, Jamie Foxx rocked it live from Central Park, whilst The Early Show on CBS had Earth Wind & Fire performing from the deck of Intrepid in the Hudson, all in New York. It must be really hard to avoid morning TV camera crews in New York in the morning!
Matt and I went for an evening drive the other night, it was rather nice, the roads were strangely quiet, indeed there was hardly a car about, just loads of big lorries or trucks, although I no know better to call them trucks, for over here a truck is a pick up and a lorry is well, nothing, Matt looked at me as if I were green and wearing yesterdays pizza on my head when I sai
d lorry, they are in fact semi's (sem-i's) but god there was loads and loads of them, some even originating from Texas, which is an awfully long way away!
Now, I'm not turning into a truck spotting anorak, but some of this beasts of the road are flipping jolly massive and I do mean massive in the most literal sense of the word. We over took one such road monster and I kid you not when I tell you that you could have got three of Matty's red cars under the trailer part of it without a hitch or hassle. The size if the thing perhaps explains the girl,y scream that shot from my lips when it started indicating and crossing into our lane, for I was sure he's squish us without even the merest bump to him, but Matty put his foot down and sped passed without incident. Well I say without incident, he did look at me with utter contempt and called me silly, and who can blame him? But in my defense, driving over here does take a little getting used to, first of all, there are so many lanes, take the main drag in Marion, there are at times, 8 lanes. On top of that they have fun laws like you can turn right on a red traffic light, yet crossing the highway you have to yield on a green light, and yeah one other thing, they drive on the wrong side of the road and don't often have gear knobs! Driving is perhaps on balance, not my forte!
After our drive we stopped off at Sonic, nope not some computer game
store, but a fast food joint that does a flipping funky ice cream sundae affair called a Sonic Blast, it's basically a large drink container filled with soft white vanilla ice cream, topped off with whipped cream, oh yeah and the blast part of it, it's blended with either Reese's peanut butter cups, or Butterfingers, Oreo's or M & M's ! I not surprisingly chose the Reese's peanut butter cups and and waited in anticipation. Now Sonic's is not your normal restaurant, you don't go in and order, you drive up to one of a dozen parking slots, at each one of the illuminated menu board and a button to press when you're ready to order. You order and when it's ready, they bring it out to your car. It's like a drive thru, except you're not driving thru, you are stay still. Usually they have girls on roller skates delivering the food according to Matt, the boys however just walk the food out, I first thought that was sexist to say the least, but then, thinking about it a little further, how many gawky, geeky teenage boys can skate well enough not to drop 4 burgers, 2 cokes, 2 Sonic blasts when racing between cars?
I have to say, I was, as far as one can be by a frozen delight, blown away by my Reese's Sonic Blast ! It is ice cream heaven and sure gives Dairy Queen a run for it's money, which can only be a good thing in my book. I'm seriously in danger of over eating and becoming the size of a house during my time over here in The States, Seriously, I am, firstly the portions are usually big, and big over here actually means massive! Secondly, the array of things of a sweet nature that are available is astounding, a 20 inch diameter cheesecake that's 6 inches tall, boxes of 12 Danish pastries for less than a fiver, ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen that are so naughty they are food porn! It's shocking, stunning, delightful, frightening, sickening, enjoyable and gluttonous all at the same time. Oh I sure could get used to living here, the only thing they don't have is jelly babies and Marmite / Vegemite, but man can live with out Marmite and let someone else give the babies of jelly a home!
