John Barrowman wanna be pilot!

John Barrowman, has revealed he first knew he was gay when he realised he fancied airline pilots. Yep, I kid you not, the Dr Who & Torchwood actor told the luvvies Stage Newspaper, that he considered being a pilot long before he thought of becoming an actor.

"There was a period when I was about 12 or 13 years old when I wanted to be an airline pilot but that was when I realised I really was gay because I liked the outfit and also the men in them." Said the star, "I couldn't justify sitting in a cockpit just to look at the outfit and the handsome man." I wonder if that's why Captain Jack wears a bit of a RAF uniform??

"All I can say to the enemies of it is - rather than sitting and complaining about, if you're angry that someone else has got that job, get up off you ass and audition. Cos it ain't gonna happen, sitting moaning about it." He said in defence of shows like Any Dream Will Do and How to Solve a Problem Like Maria.

Born in Glasgow, where he spent his early years, John moved with his family to the United States, living in Illinois, and later studied Musical Theatre at the US International University in San Diego, California.

Whilst taking further study in the UK in 1989, he landed his first professional role, starring as Billy Crocker opposite Elaine Paige in the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes at the Prince Edward Theatre. This catapulted John into a career as a leading man in musical theatre, he's had leading parts in Matador, Miss Saigon, Phantom, Sunset Boulevard, Aspects of Love, Evita and loads of others.

He's a singer, a dancer, a actor and a real true showman, an entertainer in the traditional sense of the word. Torchwood is back on BBC 2 in England this autum and on BBC America soon.

John is currently appearing as Albin in La Cage Aux Folles in London until 28th November.
